| | | PHOTO GALLERY Lamborghini Aventador J The "J" moniker on this Aventador comes from the FIA rule book; Appendix J defines technical specifications of race cars. It also summons the spirit of the 1970 Jota, a modified one-off version of the Miura. the Aventador J is an open-air two-seater with no roof. Along with the deletion of the air conditioning system, this reduces weight even more compared with the already lithe Aventador. They share the same 6.5-liter V12 pumping out 691 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed automated-manual gearbox. Lamborghini calls it the most radical open super sports car in its history. >> Photo Gallery |
| | PHOTO GALLERY Bentley EXP 9 F Bentley SUV concept could be launched within three years if parent Volkswagen gives the go-ahead. A decision is expected by the end of the year, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer said. The CEO said he "conservatively" expects annual global sales of 3,500 to 5,000 units for the model, which would expand Bentley's product lineup to three vehicles from the flagship Mulsanne and Continental car range. >> Photo Gallery |

The third-generation A class is longer and wider and ditches the current-generation car's boxy, minivan-like styling for a fresh, sporty look. The A class will arrive in European showrooms in September and is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in 2014. A 3-door version will not be sold in the U.S. market. >> Photo Gallery | | | KEITH CRAIN It has to make dollars and sense The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration again has delayed implementation of mandatory rear-view cameras in automobiles. That makes sense. Once NHTSA discovered that the rear cameras would cost consumers billions of dollars a year, someone may have realized that perhaps it wouldn't be a good value for vehicle safety. Trying to put a value on human life is difficult, if not impossible. But this situation may require someone to figure out the value relationship. Automobile companies probably aren't complaining since all they would do is pass on the cost to customers, with a profit. That's fair, but ... >> Read the column Published: Mar 5 12:01 am U.S. Eastern time
| MICHAEL DUNNE How Jeep can make a comeback in China The Chinese SUV market has recorded explosive growth, with nearly 2 million units sold in 2011. To put that in perspective, China's SUV market alone is larger than total annual sales in Italy or Korea. But Chrysler's Jeep brand delivered only 22,294 vehicles last year, relegating the proud brand to a status of a niche player in China. That sales count looks even smaller when you consider that Jeep sold more cars 20 years ago through its former joint venture, Beijing Jeep, than it sells today. Standing between Jeep and a comeback in China are three formidable obstacles. First, Jeep must secure a license to ... >> Read the column Published: Mar 5 12:01 am U.S. Eastern time
| LUCA CIFERRI GM-PSA alliance recalls GM's fling with Fiat The alliance between General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen mirrors the deal GM made with Fiat on March 13, 2000. Back then, the mantra was: "Allies on costs, competitors in the marketplace." The wording in Wednesday's announcement was essentially the same: "Each company will continue to market and sell its vehicles independently and on a competitive basis." Like the GM-Fiat deal, GM and PSA will share vehicle platforms, components and modules as well as form a global purchasing joint venture. GM and PSA say that in five years each will save about $1 billion annually because of ... >> Read the column Published: Mar 5 12:01 am U.S. Eastern time
