BMW's
iconic 3-Series nameplate - with help from the renamed 4-Series
two-door-that-is-a-3-Series - was America's top-selling premium brand
nameplate in September 2013.
The 3-Series outsold the Lexus RX by 912 units and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, its most direct rival, by 2132 units. The C-Class's September and future totals will surely be affected by the presence of the new CLA-Class. In its first month on the market, the CLA found 2310 buyers. The C-Class and CLA were responsible for 52% of Benz passenger car volume in September. The 3-Series (and 4-Series) attracted 56% of BMW's passenger car volume last month. Lexus's RX generated 39% of all Lexus sales in September. BMW's inventory at Cars.com is currently showing 426 4-Series coupes in stock at BMW dealers to go along with 17,000 copies of the 3-Series. Mercedes-Benz's inventory shows around 1400 CLA250s. Strong gains from Mercedes-Benz's E-Class were matched or bettered by other top-selling premium vehicles like the BMW X5 (up 22%), Audi A4 (up 26%), Audi Q5 (up 45%), M-B M-Class (up 30%), and the Lexus IS, which reported gains of 953 units, or 42%. The IS outsold the new Infiniti Q50 by 834 units in September. Add the outgoing G37 sedan to the Q50's total, however, and the Infiniti outsold the Lexus IS by 934 units.
Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these models can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. |
