Small SUV Sales Figures In America - September 2013 YTD

2014 Jeep Patriot red front end
Jeep kept pace with America's new vehicle market as overall automobile sales slid 4.4% in the United States in September 2013 and Jeep volume fell 4.5%.

Yet aside from the Wrangler's slight 0.9% drop, a 113-unit decline, every continuing Jeep model sold more often this September than in September 2012. Year-over-year sales of the Compass jumped 27%; the Patriot reported a 12% year-over-year increase. (Grand Cherokee sales rose 19%.)

Excluding the defunct Liberty, which was not yet replaced by the wild looking new Cherokee at dealers in September, Jeep sales were up 11.5% from 33,589 to 37,464 in September 2013. Even if we include the Liberty, which sold 5646 copies in September 2012 but only 34 in September 2013, Jeep's daily selling rate was up 3.8%. September 2013 had two fewer days of sales than the same month one year earlier, and this year's September results included no Labour Day weekend sales.

America's four best-selling utility vehicles in September 2013 are displayed in this small SUV/crossover segment breakdown, plus the seventh-ranked Jeep Wrangler and the eighth and ninth-ranked Nissan Rogue and Subaru Forester. The Ford Escape ended the month as the top-ranked SUV; the Honda CR-V is America's best-selling small utility vehicle and best-selling utility vehicle overall through the first three quarters of 2013.

The CR-V was America's best-selling SUV/crossover in 2012. The Escape led the way in 2011, having taken over from - you guessed it - the Honda CR-V.
