Through nine months, Canadian subcompact car sales are down 6.8% as overall car sales grew ever so slightly and the overall new vehicle market rose 3.5%.

September 2013 subcompact sales, however, were up 15.5% as the segment-leading Hyundai Accent, after twelve months of year-over-year declines, jumped 9.5% and six other subcompacts posted YOY increases.

In all, four subcompacts reported four-digit results in September. The Accent, Versa, Rio, and Fiesta combined to own 8.6% of the passenger car market last month; 7.5% year-to-date.

Canada's favourite small car, the Honda Civic, was responsible for 9.3% of the country's new car registrations in September; 7.9% year-to-date.

The Hyundai-Kia duo of Korean brands, which sells more passenger cars than any other manufacturer competing in the Canadian marketplace, generates 15% of Canada's car volume and 55% of the company's own total vehicle volume with six small cars.
