Five of America's 24 best-selling vehicles in July 2013 were pickup trucks. Together, those five pickups accounted for 12.5% of the industry's volume.

America's five top cars - Camry, Civic, Accord, Altima, Cruze - were responsible for generating 11.7% of the auto industry's July sales. The five leading SUVs and crossovers brought in 8% of July's 1.31 million sales, while the five leading minivans attracted just 3.2% of buyers.

Only one of those minivans appears on this list of America's 30 best-selling vehicles. The 27th-ranked Odyssey did climb higher than it has all year, however. It's one of five Hondas in July's top 30.

There are also five Fords, six General Motors products (including five Chevrolets), five Toyotas, two Jeeps and the Ram P/U, two Hyundais and one Kia, two Nissans, and one Volkswagen.

A month ago, the list of America's 30 most popular vehicles included the Ford Edge. It was replaced in July by the Honda Pilot. Other than that, there were changes in the order. The Chevrolet Cruze slid from fourth to ninth; the Chevrolet Malibu from 16th to 30th, for example.

But America's three favourite vehicles in June were still very clearly America's three favourites in July. The Ford F-Series posted a year-over-year increase of 23%, the Chevrolet Silverado climbed 45%, and Toyota Camry volume rose 16% even as the overall industry grew at a 14% clip.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling automobiles can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. GCBC has already published rankings for 36 different brands and 14 different trucks and 20 SUVs and crossovers and 20 passenger cars. Below, you'll find a list where all vehicles of all types are thrown in together: the 30 most popular vehicles in the United States in July 2013.

Commercial Van Sales Figures In Canada - July 2013 YTD

Canada July 2013 commercial van sales chart
Click Chart For Larger View
Canadian commercial van sales shot up beyond 3000 units in July 2013 as GMC Savana volume tripled and the Chevrolet Express reported a 74% improvement. Mercedes-Benz's Sprinter output rose 52%.

Perhaps of greater noteworthiness in July was the Nissan NV200's ability to outsell its more established big brother, the NV. Of course, the NV200 only outsold the NV by a single unit. And rather obviously, the NV200's increase only makes it the second-worst-selling commercial van in Canada.

Indeed, the NV200 and NV combined don't sell as often as the next-lowest-volume commercial van in Canada, the Ram C/V.

Through the first seven months of 2013, the Ford E-Series' lead over the second-ranked GMC Savana is measured at 2671 units.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank commercial vans any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

In all, the Canadian pickup truck market grew 2.6% in July, a 697-unit boost. Through the first seven months of 2013, pickup truck sales in Canada have been 14,418-units more numerous than in the same period a year earlier.

Trucks accounted for 17.3% of the Canadian auto industry's July 2013 volume, down from 17.5% in June, up from 17% in May, and down from 18.1% last July.

Last month in the United States, year-over-year pickup truck volume rose 23% but trucks were responsible for just 14% of auto industry sales. Overall, sales in the U.S. market were 8.3 times higher than Canadian auto sales last month.

You can click any model name in the table below to find historical monthly and yearly sales figures for both the United States and Canada. Top 15 Best-Selling Luxury Vehicles In America - July 2013

Either A Range Rover, Cayenne, Escalade, Or Benz GL
The BMW 3-Series posted its third consecutive year-over-year increase in July 2013, a 29% jump which saw 3er sales climb by 2237 units.

The 3-Series expanded its luxury car sales lead over the Mercedes-Benz C-Class to 5546 units through seven months while growing its premium brand lead over the Lexus RX to 4797 units.

Premium brands competing in America generated nine of their 15 top sellers with car nameplates, leaving the RX, Acura MDX, Cadillac SRX, Acura RDX, Audi Q5, and Mercedes M-Class to fill in the gaps. 63% of the vehicles sold by Acura last month were crossovers. Lexus generated 63% of its volume with the RX and ES sedan.

Cadillac's light truck line - SRX, Escalade, ESV, and EXT - accounted for 44% of the brand's July sales - the XTS was Cadillac's top-selling car. Audi produced slightly more than one-third of its July total with Q models, just as the ML, GL, G, and GLK did in Benz showrooms.

GoodCarBadCar ranks premium brand vehicles in the first table below, and then showcases vehicles from any brand so long as their base prices are above $45,000. The Suburban's $45,065 starting point - and its 39% improvement to 6181 sales in July - led to a Chevrolet being named the best-selling luxury vehicle in America in July 2013. That certainly shakes up the accepted definition of luxury.

The BMW 3-Series starts at $32,550.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these models can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well.

$45,000 USD (before delivery) is an arbitrary borderline, but if GCBC was to follow this system of designating only expensive vehicles as luxury vehicles, adding approximately $15,000 to the average new car transaction price seemed like a fitting place to begin. Plenty of less expensive vehicles with specific models feature prices above $45,000 - M, RS, and AMG models come to mind, specifically - but in the case of the second list, we know that none of the registrations were of cars priced at $32,550, as would be the case with the new BMW 320i, which costs less than a Honda Accord V6 Touring. The biggest problem with a $45,000 minimum price of entry? Cars like the Cadillac XTS, which starts at $44,075.

The best-selling Mini in America in July 2013 wasn't the conventional, original, Cooper. America's most popular Mini last month was, in fact, the Countryman, the least mini Mini.

Although Mini has delved into a number of niches, the niche-fillers don't contribute much volume to Mini. (What they may do for Mini's bottom line is another question.) Only 11.5% of Mini's July U.S. sales came from the Coupe, Roadster, Paceman.

Volkswagen sold 5256 Beetles in July, an 85% year-over-year increase, including 2541 droptops. Fiat sold 2821 500s and an additional 962 500Ls in the bigger Fiat's second month on the market.

Overall, one in five BMW Group sales in July was a Mini, and just under three quarters of all Minis sold were either Countrymans or Cooper Hardtops.

2009 Infiniti G37
G37
There's a very good reason that explains why the Infiniti G was the worst-selling car in America in July 2013. The Infiniti EX and M? Not so much with the good excuses.

Infiniti is currently replacing the G sedan with the Q50, and the Q50's arrival is slightly delayed. Who wants the old car when you can wait just a little longer to get the new car? (Infiniti thinks there will be some who'll still want the old car, so they'll sell it a while longer.)

Regardless, G inventory is low, the Q50 hasn't arrived, and G sales consequently were more than chopped in half on a year-over-year basis. As for the M and EX, few buyers wanted them last July; fewer wanted one in July 2013.

2014 Infiniti Q50
Q50
But the Infiniti G still found 3410 buyers in July, 23 times greater volume than Volvo managed with the  S80. Judged purely on volume (as we do in the two lower tables below), the worst-selling vehicle in America in July 2013 was the Mitsubishi i MiEV. And taking very expensive - and often intentionally rare - vehicles into account, the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class's rarity was indeed something to behold.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of July 2013's worst-selling vehicles can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well.

Vehicle must have been on sale in July 2013, must not have been officially cancelled by its manufacturer, and must have been showcased on manufacturer's website through July 2013. Chevrolet's Caprice PPV, Lexus LFA, Honda FCX are not eligible for this list. Sales by brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley go unreported, unfortunately.
* In the near-term, for the purposes of the worst sellers list, GCBC will be viewing the Acura RL and RLX as one car. Indeed, Acura's done the same with their sales release, so we're left not knowing how many RLs were left to be sold.

For the second consecutive month, minivan sales in America were stronger than they were in the equivalent period in 2012. July 2013 minivan sales grew 0.3% in the United States but remain down 4.1% through the first seven months of 2013.

The category's growth in July came only from two vans, the class-leading Honda Odyssey and the second-ranked Toyota Sienna. Combined, the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan twins owned 38% of the market, down from 40% a year ago, down from 42% a month ago.

North of the border - where the Chrysler twins are assembled - the T&C and Grand Caravan owned 62% of the category in the first half of 2013, and that's taking into account the presence of the Kia Rondo and Chevrolet Orlando.

Honda's surging Odyssey sales may slow after a clear-out of MY2013 models ends.

On the other hand, Odyssey volume may continue to grow now that the 2014 model includes a few key improvements.

With five months remaining, the Odyssey is 6566 sales ahead of the Toyota Sienna... and 55,761 sales back of Chrysler's combined figure.

Commercial Van Sales Figures In America - July 2013 YTD

2013 Chevrolet Express red
America's commercial van category slid 11% in July 2013. This was mainly a result of an inordinately strong July 2012 for GM's van twins, which led to a drastic decline for the Chevrolet and GMC one year later.

Sales of the Ram Cargo Van, Nissan's NV, and Ford's E-Series and Transit Connect all increased. Nissan also added 496 sales to the category's tally with the NV200. NV200 volume remains low, but sales have grown each month since it went on sale.

The segment's 23,689 sales accounted for 1.8% of the overall new vehicle market in July 2013. Through the first seven months of 2013, commercial van sales are up slightly, and the group of eight is responsible for 2% of the industry's volume.
