DECEMBER U.S. AUTO SALES VW leads gainers as industry caps strong finish to 2012 GM, Ford, Toyota post single-digit increases David Phillips Volkswagen Group's VW brand led early gains among automakers reporting year-end results today, outpacing the Detroit 3 and Toyota as the industry finished 2012 on a high note. The VW brand posted a December sales gain of 35 percent. VW sales for the year rose 35 percent to more than 438,000 units. With more than half of the industry reporting, J.P.
