Toyota, Honda extend rebound; GM, Ford slip as industry marches on
imageU.S. light-vehicle sales rose 9 percent in July from a year earlier with a seasonally adjusted annual selling rate of 14.1 million. Look at the year-over-year changes: American Honda Motor Co. up 45 percent and Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. ...

The Camry will be offered with 1.9 percent APR financing in August. Toyota also will push “great lease rates across the board,” with some Camry leases less than $200 a month.

LOS ANGELES -- Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. continued to rebound from last year's earthquake-related vehicle shortages by posting a 26 percent increase in July sales.
The automaker plans to keep its momentum with a range of August incentives, including zero percent financing and discounted leases.
While Toyota retreated from its gains of 60 percent and 87 percent in May and June, it remains on track to top its projection for 1.9 million combined sales for Toyota, Lexus and Scion this year. Bill Fay, Toyota Division's new general manager, declined to give a revised forecast.
Toyota led the industry in retail sales for a fifth consecutive month.
The Camry stretched its lead over the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima as the best-selling car in the United States.
Meanwhile, the aging Corolla was edged by the Honda Civic as the industry's best-selling compact car. Sales of the Prius hybrid remained strong, despite declines in gasoline prices.

Honda continues strong 2012; CR-V leads the way
LOS ANGELES -- American Honda Motor Co.'s sales continued a strong 2012 showing, led by the recently launched CR-V crossover hitting its seventh consecutive monthly sales record.
Last summer's inventories were severely crimped by the Japanese earthquake, skewing this July's 45 percent gain for American Honda overall. But the 2012 results are strong nonetheless.
American Honda's year-to-date performance is its best since 2008. Honda Division's sales increased by 46 percent in July, and Acura Division's increased by 36 percent.
"As our sales momentum continues to build through the summer, Honda is experiencing its best year-to-date sales in four years," John Mendel, ...

GM sales off 6%; pickups, fleet sales sag
DETROIT -- General Motors’ sales fell 6 percent in July to 201,237, on weaker demand for pickups and a drop in deliveries to rental car companies, the company said today.
Three of GM’s four brands -- Chevrolet, GMC and Buick -- had lower sales than in July 2011. Cadillac sales rose 21 percent to 13,417 on strong demand for the SRX crossover and the recently launched XTS large sedan.
A slowdown in sales of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra kept stocks of pickup trucks high. GM said it had 238,165 pickups on dealer lots at the end of July, a 136-day supply.
Silverado sales fell 13 percent, and Sierra sales dropped 12 percent. It was the first month ...
