Automobile Selections That Won't Do Damage to the Environment

By Robert R Taylor

The more we rely on fossil fuels, the more we can expect to find our environment damaged by its effects. If we look at automobiles, that is somewhere we can start to make modifications. Cars add to the emissions released which can harm the environment, so it's no surprise that car makers have set about developing eco friendly vehicles.

The most environmentally friendly auto, from the extensive choice there is, may well be the car that is powered by battery. It does not need any gasoline or diesel at all since it's solely powered by electricity coming from the battery. Sounds superb as it doesn't require gas, so money will be saved and it's not harmful to the environment which is fantastic, but there is a drawback. Even though they are available now, due to being a recent development, the car engines have limitations. What this simply means is that you will need to recharge the battery after around 100 miles, so it doesn't have a lot of mileage on one run.

The hybrid car is another kind of car available to customers. They use both a battery and gas and are not harmful to the environment. Let me give you an explanation of how these really operate. As the vehicle begins to run, it uses electricity from the battery. The need for the gasoline comes when more power is called for at a a certain speed. The nice thing about the hybrid using fuel is that it charges the battery up automatically, which means you don't have to charge the battery yourself using an outside ellectrical source.

There is also another kind of autos, referred to as plug-in hybrid cars. They run much in the same way as the previous hybrid vehicle and aren't detrimental to the environment. The plug-in hybrid vehicle does, however, need to be charged up manually whereas this is an automatic function of the regular hybrid. When it comes to fuel consumption, both hybrid car types appear to peerform better than your typical car.

One hybrid vehicle that can give you 50 miles to the gallon is the Prius developed by Toyota. With a price tag in the region of $22,000, this has become a best seller. Toyota is not the only one who jumped in, though; Honda has created the 'Insight' and in fact this vehicle was the first hybrid to be made available to to consumers. The Honda Insight introduced customers to the hybrid car even if it wasn't received in the same fashion as the Prius. There's likewise the Ford Fusion Hybrid which has received many awards and sells for more or less $27,000. In the United States, the Ford Fusion has been given the award of being the number one hybrid on the market. Mitsubishi's i-MiEV is believed to boast of a zero emission level. When it comes to Japanese car companies, the i-MiEV was one of the earliest electric cars made.

We will see continuing development for this type of automobile and numerous options for buyers looking for cars that are friendly to the environment.
